December edition of Zambian Herald

Greetings!

How can a year have passed since we returned from the states? Without the visual changes in the seasons we are used to, we tend to forget what month it is. Here it is December already and very strange to walk in Spar (the BIG grocery here) and see an aluminum Christmas tree and garland. The bugs (they are HUGE) are out in full force but God has granted me the grace that I’m no longer bothered by them, which is another minor miracle. Hot, sticky and oppressive describes the climate right now. I’m sure we’ll be remembering it fondly when we arrive at Detroit Metro on Wednesday morning and experience the cold. We have asked our friends to bring along our winter coats when they come to meet usJ. It’s exciting to think of seeing our family and friends, in particular our church family, we miss them so much.

We hosted a Thanksgiving braai (cookout) last Saturday and roughly 200 people shared a meal with us. My good friends, Mrs. Botha and Angela (little Beths’ mom) and a few others, arrived at 8 hrs to begin cooking and lunch was served at 15 hrs (3 PM). We cooked two goats, thirty one chickens, buckets of relish and cabbage along with a small “boat” full of gravy, not to mention a HUGE drum of nshima. It was a wonderful day! The kids played, the adults shot baskets and had a few heated games of volleyball. I baked each night last week and served many “sweeties” to our friends, cookies, peanut butter bars and brownies. We looked around at all the wonderful people we have met and were truly thankful for the gifts God has bestowed on us. I’ll be posting pictures of the days’ events on facebook, check them out…

Many changes at WHIZ lately, we ask you to say a special prayer for continued guidance and vision for all. As we all know, things always change and it is exactly as God has planned. WHIZ is doing wonderful works in Zambia and will continue to do so with our continued prayers and faithfulness.

Again, this year we look forward to the simple things we (as Americans) take for granted, traveling on smooth roads, water whenever we want it, reliable electricity and MEXICAN food! Can’t wait to go to our favorite restaurant, Mario’s, and have one of everything on the menu.

Thank you for your prayers and support this past year. God knows we can’t do this work without the help of his people. As we near the end of the year, we would like you to consider giving a year-end gift towards our ministry. In order for us to continue our ministry, we need your financial support.
