August edition of the Zambian Herald

Good morning (depending where you are…)

It seems each month I start with the same thought, where has the time gone? It’s been hectic here, as usual. The weather has really been erratic. Last week we were freezing (for us, must have been about 45-50 degrees at night). We had to buy a portable heater and carry it back and forth between the office and home. Everything here is made of concrete and tile so the house and buildings stay so cold. The last few days have been beautiful, warm and breezy hope “winter” is coming to an end.

We’ve been thoroughly enjoying our visitor, Kyla Judkins this month. During our travels the last few years, we were adopted by a second church where we met Kyla and her family. God has been speaking to her and she is very interested in missions work. What a joy to have a young person in the house and to see Zambia through her eyes. She’s been truly enjoying her visit and we feel blessed to have her with us. I’m loving it, I finally get a “ daughter” to hang out with. It is going to be hard to send her home but her parents want her backJ I’m thinking joint custody… We travelled to Botswana last week to see all the animals. It was amazing watching herds of elephants swim across the river together (check out the facebook pictures), saw warthogs and even got to witness hippos mating (which was/is difficult to explain).

Got a big surprise the other day… while we were in Livingstone visiting Victoria Falls on my birthday. I could go there everyday and it would never look the same. It’s beautiful. That evening we were eating at ZigZag and they brought out a cake with candles and the whole restaurant joined in singing Happy Birthday to me, including the staff. After the song was finished, water was poured on my head (it’s a Zambian tradition). It is a compliment and was quite a surprise! I recovered nicely ( I thought…J)

Watched my husband be part of a miracle the other day while we were walking in town. A older man approached us and began to talk to David and asked him for money. David said he could tell the man had been drinking and asked him what he would buy with the money…. David began to tell him how Jesus would provide for all his needs and he doesn’t need to use alcohol to feel better. While Kyla and I were shopping David stayed with this gentleman and talked and when we came out of the store we saw the man throw his alcohol bottle away and as David prayed with him he gave his heart to the Lord. It was beautiful! Who knows that man could be the reason God sent us here.

We were thrilled to be part of a wonderful blessing the IWU May nursing students bestowed on Sianakanga church. While they were here working at Zimba mission hospital we walked over an hour to church in the bush. The trust had just built a new church, no plastered walls, dirt floor and only stones and boards for seating. The service was wonderful and each of the students was really touched. At the end of their trip they asked if they could donate monies to have pews made for this church. David got the OK and found someone to build them. We finally got to deliver them this Sunday when we took a team to church there. They were a total surprise to the pastor and congregation and to see them clapping, hooting and hollering. Check out the photos on Facebook, thank you again IWU nursing students! God is so good!

What fun having five puppies has been… They are huge! We have given away four already, Mrs. Botha named hers Scooby, her sister named hers Jungle, Joshua (little Beth’s dad) also named his Jungle and Zumba named the only female “Danger”. We have one left which has been named Symons, after a WHI employee. He will probably end up with the country director, as his dog is the father of the litter. Imagine my surprise when I realized a few days ago that Wilma (the cat) is expecting. I’m still scratching my head trying to figure out how or should I say when???. She’s getting huge.

Just another reminder, if you have pledged to partner with us financially, we would appreciate your continued faithfulness. We understand the sacrifice you have made, especially in today’s economy. In order for us to remain on the field, we do need additional support. If you wish to contribute, please follow the instructions on our website, www.thewattersfamily.blogspot.com or call World Hope at 1-888-466-4673 and ask for donor services (make sure you ask them to apply your contribution to our account J). They will be happy to help you. Thank you.

We’ve encountered a few bumps in the road the last few months and we know your prayers are what helped us through them. Following Gods’ will isn’t easy but it’s so worth it. Thank you for your continued faithfulness.

Blessings,
Ba David and Mrs. David
