This is Martin and Socks (look how big Socks is now)
Happy New Year! And Twalumba Manangi!! It’s through Gods’ faithfulness and yours, we are back in Zambia. If not for your love and support but most of all your prayers, we would not be here today. During our five weeks in the states we felt God was with us every step of the way. It was great to share our work here with everyone on a personal level. We made many new friends and rekindled existing friendships. The down side is as we got ready to leave we realized just how much we missed all our friends in the US. When we left last year I think some of those feelings were minimized due to our excitement and apprehension of what our new life would hold.
Guess what, no snow here..it’s hot and humid. Rainy season started just before we left and everything is lush and green now. I’d forgotten how breathtaking it can be. Our garden has really flourished and has been feeding a number of people in the neighbourhood. We are looking forward to having fresh veggies. The potholes (craters) in the roads seem bigger and the water makes driving a bit more challenging.
Socks (our puppy) is HUGE! She’s so tall and beautiful, I was thrilled she remembered us and has spent the last few days trying to figure out how to stay in the house constantly. Wilma (the cat) is driving me crazy, she must have been really lonely because she won’t stop following me… EVERYWHERE! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stepped on her, it’s like she’s attached to my leg. Thankfully a friend of ours cleaned the house (and dead bodies) up before we arrived.
School is out this month so we weren’t home 10 minutes before “our” kids were knocking on the door asking if we could play and did we have any chocolate?? Lola, the youngest has grown so much and is talking a mile a minute. Jeff, my candy friend is still a doll and actually asked for a hug BEFORE he asked for candy.
It was a joy to walk to work this morning, spending a few moments with a number of people that I encountered along the way. Many asked where I had been, it’s nice to know I was missed. (Of course it could have something to do with being “The red headed white lady”). We attended devotions this morning and it was so good to share praise and worship with our WHIZ family. It was great to see all the smiles and receive the hugs!
The IWU team arrives on Saturday so all the preparations are underway for their three month visit. I have a long list of computer issues that everyone has complied so I’ll be quite busy. The rain wrecks havoc on the satellite so internet access has been sporadic.
David is working hard developing plans for the final finish work on the buildings. The guest house is very near completion but won’t be ready by Saturday. The rains and holidays delayed work a bit but the flooring is laid, walls painted (inside and out) and both buildings are looking great. Please continue to pray for the safety of the workers. Watch the website, http://www.thewattersfamily.blogspot.com/ I’ll post some new pictures in the next few days.
It’s hard to find words to express our appreciation and gratitude to everyone.. During this new year, we will continue to pray for Gods’ blessings on your lives and look forward to seeing many of you here this year. More later after the jet lag subsides….
Blessings,
Ba David and me…(Ba Beth, Mrs. David, Beth)
