Sinazongwe and Lake Karibe

During our visit to Sinazongwe, a village near Lake Karibe I was able to spend time with many women from the village. It's amazing how well we could communicate and they taught me many Tonga words. Such as I am a "muchambelli", a older woman. The women are so graceful and they are so funny, we had a wonderful time!

This village has begun a tailoring project in order to earn money. The women are using treadle sewing machines and can really get them moving. I tried but it's harder than it looks! They cut the material from patterns in their head, no printed patterns here. It's amazing how accurate they are and the finished product is quite nice.

David and a number of men built chicken roosts for the poultry house. No lumber was available so they cut branches off trees, skinned the branches and then measured and cut the wood to the right size. They screwed the branches together and then using tree bark as rope tied the ends to secure them.

I finally learned how to make Nshima and can't wait to try it at home. They taught me in a small pot so I could manage it. The mealy meal gets quite stiff and it make it hard to stir.
