Hurrah!! We sold the camper last night, hopefully this is a great kick off to selling off our "stuff". Mission training was wonderful, but very overwhelming. We learned of things we hadn't even thought of. There are so many cultural and safety issues when living in a foreign country. We feel more aware, if not more prepared. We spoke at length with David Erickson regarding our position on the field. It is like a dream come true!!! David will oversee from groundbreaking to completion the building of a new administrative and education center and following that a new guest house. I will be assisting the current accounting staff in how to better utilize their software and assist in providing detailed reporting for a few US federal grants they have received. We will also be host/hostess for incoming mission teams which includes coordinating all transportation, housing, food, etc.
They would like us on the field by sometime in October. I know God can make that happen, but being human I am skeptical! This week will be crazy. We have to create and finish our support letter and try to put together a brochure to mail with it, get the house on the market, get the house ready for a BIG garage sale and I have to spend five days in San Francisco at a conference for work starting on Saturday. God can do this, we can't!
This weekend we incurred many attacks! Our opposition does not like it when you are doing good. We constantly got lost, on the way to and from training. As many of you know, this is one of Davids' pet peeves (he drives for a living), he has little patience and grumblings were to be heard. We arrived home safely last night only to find the battery dead in the car. I can't remember the last time that happened! Thank goodness DTW airports have staff available to help. We couldn't get a cell phone signal in the parking garage to call AAA. We knew we would run into roadblocks but it's hard!
We will learn our final support budget number in the next few days. The current volunteer housing in Zambia may not work for us. Our WH staff is making sure we are in a safe and clean environment. The staff at WH is awesome. It was wonderful to meet the people we did not know yet this weekend. They are available to us 24/7 and if they don't have the answer, they will find it. How comforting to know they are in front of you paving the way and behind you always watching your back.
Our prayer requests include help in creating our support letter, strength and patience against these attacks and peace to calm our anxious hearts. Thank you for being there for us!
